Bad Ischl – the imperial town

Bad Ischl's boom started during the imperial era when the town became famous as a spa and summer holiday resort. The empress Sisi and her Franz Josef I of Austria were regular guests amongst others. The royal visitors attracted Viennese aristocrats, composers, painters and many more. Imperial buildings, pompous mansions and the annual Lehár-Festival testify to that time. The trip to Bad Ischl takes about half an hour.

Excursion to Hallstatt

Hallstatt – splendid picture-postcard idyll

Probably one of the most famous motive for photos and postcards: the old houses, that seem to be built on the water, with the towering mountains in the background. Hallstatt truly is something special. It all started with the Hallstatt culture more than 2,800 year ago and still lives on today. Did you know for example that you can visit over 600 painted human skulls here? Or that Hallstatt was rebuilt in the Chinese province of Guangdong? Well after all, only the best and most beautiful (towns) get copied! It's only a further half an hour by car from Bad Ischl to Hallstatt.

St. Wolfgang Lake Wolfgangsee

Enormous cliffs on one side and lush meadows on the other; and then at the narrowest spot you will find a town that has become famous for its location amongst other things. Peter Alexander danced through the Weiße Rössl Hotel in the eponymous film that made Lake Wolfgangsee's beauty popular with a whole generation. Look forward to relaxed and indulging boat rides; by the way boat trips are also available on Lake Mondsee. Alternatively take the rack railway, which has been operating for more than 120 years, to the Schafberg mountain top from where you will be able to enjoy marvellous views over the whole region.

Gosau and Dachstein

The Dachstein massif is the Salzkammergut's southern border and at the same time the border to Styria. If you go further south from here you will get to Vordere Gosausee, where you can enjoy a ca. 2-hour long hike (level: easy) deep into the nature paradise all the way to Hinterer Gosausee. Vorderer Gosausee is about one hour away.
